A contact form is a box on a website where visitors type a message and click send. The message arrives in your email inbox.

How it works

Visitor fills in fields: name, email, phone number, message. visitor clicks send. The website processes the form and sends an email to your inbox. You reply by email or phone to continue the conversation.

Why use a contact form instead of an email address

Reduces spam. An email address displayed on a website gets scraped by bots and added to mailing lists. A contact form hides your actual address.

Collects structured information. Specific fields mean you receive name, phone number, and message in a consistent format rather than whatever the sender decides to include.

Looks professional. A dedicated contact page with a form signals an established business.

Works on mobile. Easier for mobile users to fill in a form than open an email app, type an address, and compose a message from scratch.

What a contact form needs to work

Server-side processing: code that takes the form data and sends it as an email. Requires hosting that supports this.

Spam protection: prevents bots submitting fake messages. Usually a captcha or similar filter.

Email configuration: the hosting environment needs to send email reliably. Not all cheap hosting does this consistently.

Privacy compliance: a form collecting personal data requires a privacy policy explaining how that data is used. This is a legal requirement.
